I’m Daniel McQuade, an independent ceramic and sculptural artist based in the lower Hudson Valley. I specialize in working with clay — creating pottery, custom ceramic sculptures, and other three-dimensional pieces. I also enjoy collaborating with the entertainment world now and then, working on set design and film productions when the opportunity arises.

I’ve always believed in forging my own path and learning by doing. Back in high school, I started connecting with professionals in the film industry and eventually worked under them after graduation — first in the Special Effects Makeup Department, and later in the Art Department. I’ve even made appearances as a background actor in a few TV shows and movies. Those early hands-on experiences, especially in special effects makeup, sparked my love for working with different materials — silicone, resins, foams, and clay. That’s what led me to where I am now: making pottery and ceramic art.

My work deepened during a time when I was struggling with my mental health. Starting my own business became both a form of healing and a platform for advocacy. I often weave themes of mental health into my practice — not just for others, but as a reminder to myself. Clay has become a metaphor for transformation: it starts as nothing, and through pressure, heat, and time, becomes something strong and meaningful. Working with clay is my way of processing life — of digging through the dirt and creating something beautiful out of it.

These days, I focus on sculptural and functional ceramics, including my ongoing series of abstract faces. The Kindred Face Collection is inspired by growth and transformation. It’s a reminder to keep moving forward — and to find strength in change.

You can find my work online and at art fairs and craft markets across the Hudson Valley and North Jersey.
